When I first moved to Ireland in March 2010, I only knew a handful of people. Because I was working from home and living in the (new-to-me) town of Drogheda, I turned to food blogging as a way to pass my free time and to make new friends.
Roseanne was one of my very first food blogging friends, and since she lived not too far from me I invited her to my house for dinner one night along with a few other bloggers I’d met online. Since then we’ve become good friends, going on double dates with our respective hubbies (usually at L Mulligans or Eastern Seaboard – two of our faves), meeting up at blog events or just chilling out and having a good gossip session over tea and cakes.
The last time I was at Roseanne’s place, she showed me the print-outs of her book pages and we reviewed them together whilst stuffing our gobs with her famous pavlova. If you read her blog, you know Roseanne’s obsession with pavlova; she makes one nearly every week for her [very lucky or long-suffering, depending on which one of them you ask!] husband, J.
You can find the recipe for this incredible dessert – the perfect combination of crunchy/chewy meringue topped with beautiful heavy cream and a truckload of fresh fruit – in her newly released book Like Mam Used to Bake. The book is full of mouthwatering treats like Caramel Macaroons, Chocolate Peanut Butter Pie, Coconut Cake and so much more (there are even some bread recipes in there like Farmhouse Rolls and Wholemeal Soda Bread).
To celebrate the launch of the book, I have one signed copy to give away. Just name your favourite dessert and why you love it so much in the comments section below, and on Friday morning I’ll do a random draw for the winner. Best of luck to everyone – and congratulations to Roseanne on this incredibly impressive accomplishment!
Competition open to anyone in the island of Ireland!

I LOVE any lemon dessert. Would love to get my hands on this book to try some of these lovely cakes out on my family of sweet tooth’s!
I LOVE deep filled apple pie & custard; always reminds me of years ago when my mum used to make it for after Sunday dinner!
My favourite desert is banoffi pie. I just love it and I love making it too. It’s such a winner. I have made it for many great social occasions. It tastes of memories of birthdays and celebrations and good times with good people.
Sponge cake with cream & jam, washed down with a good cup of tea! Would love this book!
Pavlova is definitely one of my faves along with any lemon dessert 🙂 thanks for the chance to win!
I love blueberry gateau because it’s light, amazingly tasty and always with wow effect 🙂 good luck to you all 🙂
I just love warm pear and almond tart with a dollop of lightly whipped cream. Delish. Roseanne’s book looks fab.
Creme brûlée- any variation. Starters are my fave part of a meal & after that & the main course, I want something relatively small. I\’m fooling myself but creme brulee looks smallish! Followed likemamusedtobake blog for a longtime – what a great achievement to have a book, well done to Roseanne.
Apple Tart. I have simple tastes when it comes to dessert- nothing beats warm apple tart, with stewed apples so the tart is fairly soft, maybe a tiny bit of vanilla ice-cream on the side. It reminds me of desserts growing up. I’d love some now!
Sticky Toffee Pudding warm with vanilla icecream mmm im salavating thinking about it!!! never get to make it though because sponge or chocolate cakes are top of the list when it comes to the smaller people in my life! keep up the good work!!
Apple madeira warm with ice-cream on top of it. So good.
chocolate pudding… fresh but still decadent! Martina
Ohhh Im a lemon girl – lemon drizzle cake is a clear winner. Not sure if cake counts as dessert though. Its usually eaten with tea/coffee at our house 🙂
Anything with lemon and fresh berries… 2 of your 5 a day so it has to be good!
Best of luck Roseanne 🙂
My favourite has to be Trifle made by my 9yo daughter. She won’t accept any help so the end result varies, and sometimes looks a bit strange but she puts a lot of effort into the ingredients and presentation…and it tastes delicious!!
Hello Clare,I\\’m disqualified due to residence but Sweets is my middle name. Not sure if German Chocolate Cake made it across the pond but the combination of gooey, choco, nuts, coconut and soft tasty cake in one bite, a mouthful of glorious scrumptiousness is unbeatable. Too much for some, the dessert amateurs. Good luck to all contest entrants. Best to MM. B
Has to be chocolate fondant with ice cream. The hot/cold contrast and oozing chocolate is hard to beat!
This is so difficult! Dessert is the one course where it’s almost impossible to get something you don’t like 😉 Banoffee, Creme Brûlée, Rhubarb Crumble, Pavlova, Strawberries and Cream. I’ll take any one of them. Mmmmm. And Like Mam Used to Bake would have the best recipes.
My favourite has to be homemade apple Pie with fresh wipped cream. The ultimate comfort food!! I would love to win this book!! Love your Blog!!x
